Pro Line Citrulline Malate 2000 enhances power and strength during workouts, by increasing vasodilation and ATP production, and speeds recovery after exercise, by reducing lactic acid and removing ammonia from the body.*
What is Citrulline?
L-citrulline is a non-essential amino acid, some of which is produced within the body, and some of which is found in the diet, in fruits like watermelon. In the body, our kidneys change L-citrulline into another amino acid, L-arginine.
What Does It Do?
L-citrulline, like L-arginine, helps to raise nitric-oxide levels in the body, dilating blood vessels, which in turn delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles. This is why taking L-citrulline as a supplement can significantly improve athletic performance.* And, it should be mentioned that healthy vasodilation is essential for preventing erectile dysfunction, which is why L-citrulline is now an ingredient in many sexual enhancement products*. L-citrulline also helps the body to detoxify lactic acid, and remove ammonia from the body, two compounds that contribute to post-exercise fatigue.*
Since L-citrulline acts as a precursor to L-arginine, these two amino acids are often combined in products, but it is now known that the L-arginine is not necessary. The problem with using L-arginine to attain vasodilation is that it requires more work by the body to utilize it, since it must be absorbed through the small intestine and processed by the liver before it can be released into circulation. Whereas L-citrulline bypasses these digestive processes, and immediately enters the blood stream, boosting nitric-oxide levels and effecting vasodilation.
So, L-citrulline will do the job on its own, and, given that some people get digestive distress from taking L-arginine, the new approach to boosting nitric oxide levels is to take just L-citrulline and leave the L-arginine out of the equation.
There are two forms of citrulline: L-citrulline and Citrulline Malate. Citrulline Malate is L-citrulline bound to malic acid, which dramatically improves the absorption of L-citrulline.
Malic acid acts as a catalyst, via the Kreb' cycle, for converting amino acids into energy, so when we increase our malate levels we also increase our energy production. Therefore, Citrulline Malate both increases nitric oxide levels, bringing more blood, and therefore oxygen and nutrients, to the muscles, and it provides increased energy levels to enhance physical performance.*
L-Citrulline alone has been proven to improve power output, oxygen consumption, and exercise performance, at a dosage of 2.4 gram, when taken over a period of 8 days. But, newer studies done on Citrulline Malate have shown even better results, reporting that, when taken before exercise, it resulted in increased maximal grip and lower-body strength.* Among weightlifters, Citrulline Malate was shown to increase the number of reps to the failure point, during a variety of lower-body exercises. Other studies have found that taking Citrulline Malate one hour before extreme bench pressing, significantly reduces post-exercise muscle soreness, resulting in improved recovery.*
Why is Vitamin C in This Formula?
Studies show that Vitamin C can actually increase L-citrulline levels in the body, so it is clearly a cofactor required for the body to produce its own L-citrulline. And, among the many benefits that Vitamin C provides to the body, for the purposes of exercise it is valuable for its ability to lower cortisol and decrease inflammation*. On top of that Vitamin C also plays a role in raising nitric oxide levels, supporting the main purpose of this formula.*
AstraGin is a patented extract of two herbs, Astragalus and Notoginseng, clinically proven to dramatically improve nutrient absorption in the body. This increased bioavailability of the nutrients present in this formula makes it even more efficient at producing the desired effects of elevating nitric oxide levels, increasing ATP production, and aiding in recovery.*
