Love Your Guts: The Gut Lab's Guide to Incorporating Mushroom Powder into your Diet

So much can be said about the ancient wisdom and healing benefits of mushrooms. we know, we know - it’s a little far fetched, but hear us out. We’ve picked our favourite three, that we love to add to our smoothies, coffee, elixir, oatmeal, or favourite raw dessert. Easy to travel with, bring to the office, or keep on the counter for easy use - these mushrooms have proven time and time again how critical they are to assisting your body with wellness.

Chaga mushroom is typically found on birch trees in cold climates, chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is known to be chock full of polysaccharides within its chitin walls that have been shown to boost energy. Chaga may support gastrointestinal + liver health, as well as overall cardiovascular wellness. Used also for its anti-viral, anti-cancer + anti-inflammatory abilities, it’s no wonder chaga is called the king. Long live king chaga!

Cordyceps militaris is known for increasing energy levels + stamina (have we caught your attention?), + its ability to fight free radicals. Cordyceps has been used to reduce instances of respiratory illnesses such as asthma, coughs, + chronic bronchitis. This super mushroom may assist with symptoms of leaky gut as well as autoimmune disorders. Cordyceps may assist with optimal liver function + detoxification, in turn helping with digestion, cholesterol levels + overall cardiovascular health.

Reishi is called the queen of mushrooms. Traditionally used for her innate immune potentiating ability which may activate immune cells. This fruiting body is known to be high in triterpenoids, an active compound known for their liver + kidney protective, antioxidant, anti-histamine + anti-inflammatory activity. Reishi is said to be soothing to the digestive tract which may assist with symptoms of leaky gut + has also been used to aid in lung conditions such as asthma + bronchitis, + may help support those with cardiovascular disease. 

Not that we needed an excuse for this comforting, cozy drink- but the cooler days are making it pretty darn easy to snuggle up + enjoy! This recipe is made up of some of our favourite mushroom powders.

Serves 1


1-2 shots espresso (optional)

1 mug of chaga tea or plant milk of choice 

1/2 tsp chaga mushroom powder

1/2 tsp reishi mushroom powder 

1/4 tsp cordyceps mushroom powder

1Tbsp raw cacao powder

1 tsp coconut butter

sweeten if desired  


  1. Heat up your desired base then place in a blender or you can whisk together on stove top if a blender is not an option
  2. Add mushrooms, raw cacao and coconut butter, (sweetener as well if desired), to blender or stove top
  3. Whirl until mixed
  4. Pour in your favourite mug
  5. Enjoy the moment sipping away!
