While only recently introduced to the United States' 5-HTP has been widely used in Europe since the 1970's. 5-Hydroxytryptophan, also known as 5-HTP, is an amino acid that converts into a chemical called serotonin - an important brain chemical that is useful for multiple functions.
5-HTP is found in many places in the body such as the brain, gastrointestinal system, and blood cells. Common food sources that are rich in 5-HTP are turkey, milk, potatoes, pumpkin, and various greens.
